Internet Access Policies

Welcome to the Roswell Public Library’s Internet Access. The use of library owned Internet computers requires a valid library card issued by Library staff or a valid identification card. To maximize availability to this resource and to insure fair accessibility for all, please follow this policy.

INTERNET ACCESS POLICY

In response to advances in technology and the changing needs of the community, the Roswell Public Library endeavors to develop collections, resources, and services that meet the cultural, informational, recreational, and educational needs of Chaves County’s diverse, multicultural community. It is within this context that the Library offers access to the Internet.

The Internet is a global entity with a highly diverse user population. The Roswell Public Library does not monitor and has no control over the information accessed through the Internet and cannot be held responsible for its content. Users of the Internet are solely responsible for what they access on the Internet. The City of Roswell does not warrant or assume any legal liability or responsibility for the accuracy, completeness, or usefulness of documents or information found on the Internet.

Illegal use of this resource in the Library by anyone, including minors, but not limited to infringement of copyright laws, hacking, access to inappropriate or illegal materials is prohibited. In addition, minors are prohibited from accessing material considered to be ”harmful to minors.” Users are responsible for knowing and observing laws pertaining to Internet use.

All Internet resources accessible through the Library are provided equally to all Library users. The Roswell Public Library is not responsible for viruses or damage to the users’ computer if the user downloads files from the Internet.

There are information resources which users may personally find controversial or inappropriate. Not all sources on the Internet provide accurate, complete, or current information. Users need to be good information consumers, questioning the validity of the information found.

All computers within the Library, including staff computers, are filtered for pornographic and sexually explicit web sites in accordance with the Children’s Internet Protection Act. Adults may request that filters be disabled for unfiltered lawful access on the Library computers. The level of access for minors shall be determined by the parent.
