 Your Laptop / Our Internet

It is now possible to access the World Wide Web from within the Roswell Public Library using your own laptop computer.

Details
1 .We have both wireless and wired Internet access. Your laptop must have a Wireless Network Interface Card to use this service, or you may connect with an Ethernet Network Interface Card (using an RJ-45 connection) and a patch cable.

2. Wireless is available throughout the library. Wired ports are available in the study rooms, study alcoves, periodicals area or the windowed reading areas.  Ports used by our Public Access Computers or OPAC machines are not allowed.

3. You must be capable of setting your laptop for DHCP and/or wireless connections.  Our staff members are not trained to do this for you, but here is some generic help for setting DHCP, and wireless for Mac OS 8, 9, X, and Windows 98, 2000, XP and Vista. If your wireless card has special software, it is best to use it.

4. Please note that this is an unsecured network! For your own computer and data safety we recommend you have a personal firewall, anti-virus, and anti-spyware software installed on your system.

5. Connectivity is for general internet access only; you may not use this connectivity for Telnet or for SMTP mail.  Web based mail such as Yahoo! mail, Hotmail, etc., and forwarding services such as www.web2mail.com and www.mail2web.com are ok.

6. Printing to the Library printers is not available through this service. If you need printing capabilities, please use our Public Access Computers.

7. This access is provided "as is"; library personnel are not trained to troubleshoot.
